Workshop on Caring for the Elderly – How to take care of elders with diabetes

In order to facilitate working carers of the elderly in balancing their work and caring responsibilities, a series of workshops on elderly care, which is sponsored by the Community Chest of Hong Kong, have been organised by HKCSS. The sixth workshop namely “How to take care of elders with diabetes” was successfully held on 10 August 2012, with the guest speaker Ms Evelyn Lee, Registered Nurse of United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service, to share her insights with nearly 20 working carers.

Diabetes is a chronic disease in which a person has high blood sugar, either because of lacking of insulin or reduction in body response to insulin. According to statistical data, one of every 10 people in Hong Kong suffer from this disease, and it is ranked 10th in the common fatal diseases. As diabetes is very common, patients and their family members have to adjust dietary habit, lifestyle as well as mentality persistently.
