Tea Gathering - Know More About “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” - How SMEs Implement Socially Responsible Business Practices, and Care for the Community?

It has become more popular to talk about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among businesses with all sizes. In particular, SMEs have been making use of their advantage in flexibility to partner with social service organisations to fulfil CSR.

However, many SMEs still find it difficult to take on the road to CSR particularly in their business operation, as well as to find suitable social service partners. In view of this, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) and HSBC co-organised a tea gathering on 16 April 2008 (Wednesday) at 41/F of the HSBC Main Building, with insights into the further CSR participation.

SMEs from different industries participated in the event, including Caring Companies that would like to intensify their CSR participation. Besides, Mr Paul Yeung, Division Director, Commercial Banking introduced HSBC’s Green Equipment Financing, which is a new initiative that HSBC helps SMEs remain cost–effective and productive in adopting green management in their business operation.

Ms Christine Fang, Chief Executive of HKCSS, and Mrs Virginia Lo, Vice President External Affairs, Group Public Affairs of HSBC, thanked all participants for their enthusiasm in serving the community. Participants were also encouraged to do more for the betterment of society.

Mr Wong Nam-kiu, Director of Conrad Management Service Co., Ltd., award winner of the “SME Community Participation Award” of the Caring Company Scheme, and his partner Mr Alex Au, General Manager of the Hong Kong Employment Development Service were also there to share their experiences on community participation.

Having collaborated with the HSBC Living Business Award for 3consecutive years, the award winner of the “SME Community Participation Award” of the Caring Company Scheme would also be awarded the Sapphire Award of the HSBC Living Business Award with a HK$10,000 cash prize.
